i ve been reading past threads on this job and am wondering (as im just confusing myself with the diffenernt methods of how people have replaced the c.v boots) is it necessary to remove the hub nut and split pin for the job, as some people have suggested just loosening and others have removed it. just that i can 't get mine to budge at all 
i have got them off before but today they are being difficult. just wanted to know so i may save myself some grief. |

You can remove the hub in it's entireity by releasing the three ball joints and pulling the driveshaft out of the inner CV. once it is out you can work on the CV boot on a bench and simply slide it over the end of the driveshaft to replace it. |

Remove the CV nut and pull the CV joint out of the hub. That way you can then install the new boot while the CV is held in a vice. its much easier that way & you will get the boot tie/wire whatever you use on properly. |

I did this job very recently. My hub bolts were also hardcore tight, so i bombed it with inox and then got a big shifter (had no socket, since bought one) and put a meter long pipe over the end of the shifter and got a heap of leverage one it while someone was on the brakes as hard as they could. Worked quite well. |

i did this when i dropped motor back in, and i found using wire to hold them on instead of zip ties works better. The head of the zip tie rubs inside the hub and it didnt take too long for the zip tie to break. |

Zip ties don't hold real well, or sometimes last long either. 
Proper CV straps are best, failing that use 3 turns of 16SWG soft steel wire, twist the ends together, cut and bend back flat, away from rotation direction. |

BAH , thats not what i wanted to hear. damb supplied zip ties. mmmm what to do. oh well i gues now that i know how to do it  what eva happens can be fixed up later. + its gonna be much better then it was before.
