I'm trying to doing some custom internal boot hinges on the mini (yes yes, its still NOT done!) Anyway, been off the project for a long time, and sick of not having my car done. So, has anybody seen anything? I'm having trouble with getting them so the boot lid clears the bodywork. |

One of our members went through this about 10 years ago. After lots of trials and grief he came to the conclusion it was never going to work ,as he could not get the pivots in the right place. So he gave up, put 2 guide lugs on it and made it a lift-out boot. ![]() |

I have a feeling its a combination of the curve of the boot, as well as the fact that the pivot point needs to be on the wrong side of the steel ![]() |

Thank you very much. I'm not worried if the boot won't open 100% like normal, as by the time the car is finished, there won't be any room anyway, spare tire, air-con system, amps etc. |

the beauty of this is, instead of bolting the hinge to the boot, you could use removable pins, making the boot easily removable. I have similar pins holding my bonnet hinges onto the bonnet. similar to these: http://www.makefast.com/marine_section/ ... p_pins.asp |

Kev, 10 years! your making me feel old. All worked very well until the day my son twisted the handle and I lost the bootlid when I hit a bump. ![]() |

BTw, it was just two pegs on the inside on the bootlid that slipped into the bootand you did the boot up as normal. |

Oz, that's what mine will be like (body wise), I've de-bumpered it, but I've added (1/2 so far) a number plate recess. It'll get a late model electric boot release (with a cable to the drivers foot well. I've got my mounting position worked out and a quick test with 1 hinge 1/2 mocked up it was going to work, so I'm proceeding to make some better final pieces. Do you guys think a right angle of 1.6mm gal RHS will be OK for the base mount welded to the floor of the boot (1/4" UNF pivot)? I know they'll handle the weight of the boot lid, but should I go stronger safety wise? |

i was thinking about this the other day.. id like to make something that came out a bit then went up and sat where the rear window is would be very hard to do and would need alot of movement in the hinges but would look cool |

I did try a search there, but I'll have a better look. But, I've had success with 1 mockup hinge, so I'm progressing on. What do you guys think would look better, polished ally hinge arms or nice painted steel? |
