It's iron phosphate, just dust it and paint over.

I have been using phosphoric acid on my gt restoration and it leaves a white residue behind on the bare metal, and is very difficult to remove. Is it ok to paint over this white residue, or i have to spend forever cleaning it off before i prime it??? Not specifically mini related hence why i have put it here. What are you trying to remove it with? Tried metholated spirits? |

i tried water and prepsol. i may try metho. So its ok then doc, to paint straight over, in that case may just leave it and not be so fussy. thanks |

Iron phosphate is a great surface to paint over. clean it with Prepsolve & paint over it. |

Isnt iron phosphate rust that has been converted and can be seen as being black? What i have is white. I was using the acid to clean the metal and hence used it on clean metal, when wiped off left a white residue. So i dont think this white is iron phosphate so is it still ok to paint over? |

What do the instructions for the product say on how to use it? The por15 metal ready from memory says you need to keep the metal wet with the product and then wash off with water and then you can spray your paint. If you put prepsol over the product it may remove any rust protecting properties. |
