OK Guys, I don't want this to turn into a debate about what a Cooper S is worth but I do have a hypothetical question for your consideration and response.
If a fully restored, concourse Cooper S is worth $25000, hypothetically
What is an Australian Clubman GT restored to exactly the same standard worth?
I am interested in a percentage figure of the Cooper S value, not an actual dollar value so please don't get confused.
I will be most interested in everyones response.

i think the cooper s is more recognised to the general public because of the original mini shape and also the 9 first places at bathurst in '66.

id prefer a concourse GT over a cooper s any day though. :wink:

It's worth what someone is yada yada yada yada.......blah... That figure is about right for the prices they have been going for. If you were to pick a complete car up for 10k, you would spend at a minimum 15k to get it fixed up...more if you don't do as much work as you can yourself. GT's do go for less...not that they are worth less however. I've seen nice ones go for less than 15k, but I'm sure there are exceptions.

An interesting question. A guy at work says (too often) that opinions are like ar..holes, everyone has one. Simple fact, anything for sale is worth only what the market will bear. If it's a 'keeper', that's different as the value is in the eye of the beholder and emotions come into play. The other thing is, the original mini was the roundy and there is no getting past that. Maybe a bit like the Monaro. The original one will for some time, and maybe always , pull a higher price as it established the marque. It maybe a lesser car, but hey, it was the first and I think that counts above the merit of the mechanicals. IMHO.

Market forces.... We are all on here because we are mini people, many of us have more than one, but others have just one mini. If i go out to buy a fun classic, and im looking at, for example, Mustangs, Given the choice between an early notchback, and a Boss, Im going to buy the notchback...because in my oppinion, its prettier, and its what i think of when somone says "mustang". When a non-mini owner goes to buy a mini for fun, the Cooper S just has more of a reputation, AND, being honest (and a clubman owner) more people perfer the roundnose...simple as that.. thats my 2 cents

Mine was made in 3/70, body number is 1385. Take off 500, and it was car 885 (from September '68 when the `Mk2' version started). Production fizzled out sometime in 1971, nobody remembers exactly when but a few got the Clubby doors.. The previous `Mk1' version only released in January `68 (and not many would have been built in only 8 months). My point is, the automatic Minis are much rarer than a Cooper S or even a Clubman GT. I will be most interested in everyones response. thanks guys, Dave Dave, I know you have just punched in a hypothetical figure for the Cooper S value, but just for the record I think the value for a concours car is a far bit higher then that. An excellent one will sell for 25k. In the last two months alone I personally know of 4 concours cars with proven history that have sold for over 30k. Some up to 40k. As for the value of the GT I think they are nearly comparable. The thing is, although they are available in lesser numbers then the S, they aren't really as sought after, especially outside of Mini circles. It takes far longer to sell a concours GT than a concours 'S'. The "S' will always have a bigger market in proportion to their available numbers.

Yep, Notice all the magazine articles about the Cooper S lately? When minis are mentioned, well, it's usually the Cooper S which is described, as it has the highest profile for the general public of any mini. This will keep their value above other variants.

The Cooper S is valued more highly because it has a successful racing pedigree and it has the iconic mini shape. As for a percentage, putting any # on it would be a guess.

if i ever had the money id pay more for the GT
