was woundering if theres a better way to bolt the oil cooler on to the front of the car with out bending the seem that most others do.
ive seen sooo many minis arrive at mini places to have engines installed etc all perfect
then go days after to find the front lip all bent and paint cracked etc....suppose the best way would be to bend it b4 you paint....
was there ever a mounting bracket on minis that came standard with an oil cooler??
or did they bend that seem like all others do?
has anyone welded an extra piece of flat steel on here to mount the cooler nice and neat?

Cooper S `66 on had the bent flange, but also 2 little brackets below it. Sorry, no pic...

Note also the S grille is packed forward on spacers- if you don't, the 2 vertical ribs on it will cut into the alloy cooler.

all my minis have had oil coolers and all have had the quick release pins on the grill too witch are spaced so no problems with rubing etc.
was thinkiing of just cutting the seem off the length of the oil cooler and adding a nice piece of flat steel the width of the cooler..???

I have never had trouble with the paint cracking. But, I don't use the high pressure steel braided hydraulic hoses with swaged on ends as some do. These are too rigid, and make the cooler flex with the motor.

I use Pirtek multi MPH-08, 500psi WP hydraulic return hose, with 1/2" BSP push on barb fittings.
It is much more flexible.

Why fit an oil cooler anyway? Is your oil too hot?

i bet everyones oil runs hot...ive allways run an oil cooler....and yes the whole enigne setup runs hot....
only thing keeping it cool was the $600 alloy rad and a thermo fan....
i understand the oil cooler only works when ya moving but all these things help in cooling a hot engine..
plus i like the look of it in the engine bay.

You would lose that bet, Have you ever tested oil temperatures on a Mini? The alloy sump is a very effective oil cooler.
I have had problems with low oil temps in the past.

Is a $600 alloy radiator any better than a stock Australian radiator? Just because it is alloy and expensive does not mean it is efficient.

Same here. Only time mine ever gets the oil hot is on track days. So on those odd occasions (not been for years now) I fit it, the rest of the time it sits on the shelf.
In road use I find no oil pressure difference with or without, even at 110KMH on the freeway. It still sits on 70psi. Note this is with KMart's KMX 20W/50, not Castrol GTX....
The cooling effect it has on an engine's water temp is minimal. Can't tell the difference in daily driving.
