Post subject:  brake and clutch master cylinders locations
gday everyone....
ive been buying bits and pieces now and again...bought a brake master cylinder ages ago the new plastic type....fitted it just to see how it looked as the cars still being built up...
just borght the matching clutch master cylinder and i cant figure out how they sit..
the clutch one wont sit flat as it hits the brake one..but it i swap the location clutch cyinder to where the brake one should go they sit fine..
is there any difference apart from how much fluid they hold??
the only way they will sit side by side together is for me to turn the brake one around but then it just dosent look right...??

the brake one looks like this.

the clutch one looks kinda the same but is all round..
im sure you have seen them b4.

Not familiar with those MC's but it looks like your distribution block for the brakes is hooked to the mount for the engine steady?

In that pic you have the brake MC around the wrong way....

Heres how the brake and clutch MC's are on mine...

thanks for the pic...ill fix it up tomorow.
ive lost that plate that the master cylinders sit on so ill go and get one tomorow as well.
as its required for the engine steady by the looks of things??

Yep there is two plates...the angle bracket that the t-piece bolts to, and the tray that goes beneath the two MCs that the top of the engine steady bolts to

it was mentioned but back then i only had the brake item .
i realy dont like the look of the brake one back to front..
ive seen some people use the same master cylinder for both brake and clutch??
anyone one know whats the diffence between the two??
except one holds more fluid??
it looks like two clutch ones would fit side by side ok.

Clutch M/C is 0.75" bore, the brake is 0.70". Also the clutch has no restrictor valve in the top.
If you use a clutch one for the brakes, the pedal will be 14.8% harder to push.

OTOH, if you use a brake one for the clutch, it will move less fluid, so you will have trouble getting enough clutch stroke if there is any wear in the linkages. You will then have trouble getting gears (a common prob, some Minis did come with a 0.70" clutch one). :wink:

no problems..ill keep it the way ive got it then as im told its right.
ill just turn the brake one around like others have said to do. i went today and got the little braket the t peice bolts onto plus the metal braket the master cylinders sit on and the engine steady bolts to as well..
they drying as i speak...
picked up a new alternator as well......
gee i love buying toys for my car
