Post subject: | My 850 body & engine number? WTF?? |
Ok, this has been stumping me for AGES... Our 64 poreclain green 850's numbers don't seem to match up.. And I have service and ownership records dating back to when the car was 12 months old (thats how long its been owned by my family and the engine has never been changed let alone taken out of the engine bay!) "borrowed" from lindsay sieblers website, Morris 850 sed 8AMUH YMA2S1 848 Morris Mini Minor 8YUH YMA2S3 848 So.... our car being a morris 850, should be the top one. But it has always been registered as, and the numbers on the firewall say, Morris 850 Style : YMZ2S1 Car No : 44907 Engine number : 8YUH3375 WTF????? I have looked up close, i've had others check for me, its definetly a "Z" rather than an "A" in the style code. and the engine number on the firewall plaque match the engine number on the block.. Can anyone shed any light or comment on what I have here? Build dates that I can find on wiper, starter, boot lock etc all say 11/1963. Thanks Josh |

They have probably misstamped the plate, like they did on my `Matic. Mine has YA2S5 on the body, YG2S5 on the plate... go figure... ![]() As for the engine number, 8AMUH were the early 850s with UK motors. Sometime around 1964? they got Australian built 8YUH ones. |

The plate has been stamped wrong. The "A" refers to engine size and there is no "Z" sized engine. Y = Australian Manufacture. M = Morris badge A = 800 to 999cc (L = up to 799, G = 1000 to 1399, H = 1400 to 1999, B = 2000 to 2999, D = 3000 up) 2S = 2 Door saloon (S = 4 door saloon, W = Wagon, X = Taxi, etc) 1 = Morris 850 (1 = 850, 2 = Deluxe, 3 = Mini Minor, etc) 8YUH3375 8 = 850 Y = Australian Manufacture. U = Centre Gear Change Gearbox H = High Compression 3375 = 2375th engine (numbers start at 1001) |
