Just heard on Fox FM news a moke was hit by a garbage truck thismorning (in Oakleigh?) where apparently the driver was thrown five metres from the car!
Does anyone know who this might be or if they're okay?

I thought this was going to be an explanation of how BIAM got his looks!

Hope the paper delivery person is OK

A NEWSPAPER delivery man was thrown 10 metres in the air after his car and a garbage truck collided this morning.

The 62-year-old man was delivering newspapers from his Mini Moke when the incident occurred about 5.50am on Warrigal Rd near Schoolhall St, Oakleigh.

Intensive care paramedic Ross Pollard said ambulance crews arrived to find the man lying on the road.

“There was significant damage to the four wheel drive, with the back of it virtually gone,” he said

“He had head injuries but was conscious.

‘We were concerned about the potential for spinal injuries given the impact, so a neck brace was fitted.

The man was taken to the Alfred Hospital in a serious condition with head injuries and possible spinal and internal injuries.

The south bound lane of Warrigal Rd has been closed.

.....There was significant damage to the four wheel drive....

there are 4WD mokes..?? :?

This is so scary. As a Moke owner you always know how close you are to death driving in the things, so its always bad to read this. Its also scary to think that my first experience in a moke was standing up in the back as a young teen throwing newspapers out from the back, all the while holding onto the roll bar thing. Good times, but deadly potentially... but still.. good times. :D

I'd say that's a case of the reporter not knowing, other than it looks a bit like a jeep

the garbage truck must've been hooking along - the green waste truck in our street goes too fast

Hope the Moke driver pulls out ok.

There needs to be a crackdown on people who are on the road making a living. Within a week, on the route that I drive to work (not during my commuting hours) two taxi drivers have been involved in, and been at fault of two seperate fatalities. One was just down from work, a 100km/h dual lane hwy, the taxi driver dropped a group of 17y/o's, went and did a u turn up the road and when coming back hit on of the kids. The 17y/o boy died on the scene. The other was a taxi driver pulling out crossing a dual lane road (same road, but in built up area, 70km/h) and was t-boned. Driver of the taxi died.

I'm sure these are just a minority of people who use our roads to make a crust, but I feel that a large percentage of dangerous drivers on the road are made up by these people.

A newspaper delivery man suffered serious injuries when he was thrown from his Mini Moke in a crash with a garbage truck in Melbourne's south-east this morning.

Police said the 62-year-old man was found on Warrigal Road near Schoolhall Street in Oakleigh South, several metres from his car after the crash just after 5.30am.

Intensive care paramedic Ross Pollard said the man was in a serious condition.

"The man was about five metres from where his car and the garbage truck had collided," Mr Pollard said.

"He had head injuries but was conscious.

"The man has been transported by intensive care paramedics to the Alfred Hospital in a serious condition suffering head injuries, and possible spinal and internal injuries."

I know this guy (not personally) and used to see him driving around delivering papers all the time when in lived in Bentleigh.

Hope he comes out ok. Head, spinal and internal injuries doesn't sound good. :?

I used to see this guy most mornings when I spent a lot of time in Brighton. He was always out and about in his little moke doing his rounds, rain, hail or shine, always gave a toot and flash and got one in return.

I hope he's ok!

I've split this thread up - it was getting very off topic, and gross - if you want to continue it's here -> http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=53019

otherwise, this thread is about a moke being hit by a rubbish truck
