Post subject:  just when i thought i was in the clear,,, opinions needed

long story short did the c.v boots on both sides, took a test drive yesterday and thought it was all .... it seemed all good till i had a realy good look at the slight noise coming from left side...
:? Image
does some one want to enlighten me as to what i have stuffed up on the putting back to gether of the c.v joint and left side of car.

am worried now as i did both sides and i would like any opinions so i can get stuck into my seemingly obvios problem.
it seems like the shaft is coming out of the cage, and i put it back as it came out and eveerything seemed A OK.

cheers

There should be a circlip at the end of the spline. Did you put it back in ? You're supposed to use a new one but I've alsways got away with the old one. At one stage I lost an old one and cut a section out of a key ring. Still there after 100, ooo kms.

From the pic it looks like the circlip either isnt there, or you didnt knock the joint all the way back so the circlip could pop out in its slot. So your axle has pulled out of the cvjoint instead of sliding as per normal. I suppose the clip could have also broken whilst putting the joint on and hasnt sprung open into its slot.

stick your finger in the hole and feel around [now there is a nice line]
The circlip may have sprung off when it went thru the CV joint. If they are opened out too much they can come off. If in doubt get new ones
