Guys, is there a torque wrench setting for the cover? Or is it just tight enough to compress the gasket?????

Don't overdo it with the original cover- you will bow it and distort the gasket.
I like alloy covers- gasket face is flat and stays that way! 8)

I just look at the gasket, and tighten it until it has compressed slightly and no gaps!

Finger tight...just make sure its sealed right around...in another thread some people have said they Gasket glue on the cover and let it set for a coupl of hours and then fit

Finger tight works for me - then a touch for good measure. Had not a drop go by

I think its a good idea to put a smear of grease around the gasket before you fit it! This seems to make it last a hell of a lot longer and it comes of alot easier! :D

Finger tight (sorta) plus about one eighth of a turn for good measure - any tighter and you distort the cover.

Cheers

Cheers guys, the reason that i asked was that yes the manual says 4lbs/ft, but that seems waaay too tight and i didn't wan't to go much past finger tight because iot was starting to compress the rubber gromit that is below the rocker cover nut, which i thought was sufficient :?

So finger tight and a bit is the going rate, so i'll go with that :)

gut the gastet on and finger tighten it down..Check that the gasket is sitting correctly....Start the engine and check for sepage..Go for a spin and re check....if leaking on one side give a half turn or re-adjust Gasket
Go for a Cruise and enjoy..and also check gasket and enjoy 8)

Some engines (Cooper S and maybe others) came with 3/16" spacers under the rocker cover nuts so that you couldn't distort the cover even if you used the 3 ft breaker bar to tighten them. With the spacer the nuts bottom before the cover distorts.
Seems like a good idea for a retrofit.
Make sure you use the proper gasket. The thin cork aftermarket ones are a waste of space (no pun intended). The thicker rubberised cork ones are the way to go. Also some rocker covers do not have the metal strips on the inside to keep the gasket in place until it's tightened.
