What options are available for stroking a 998?
Or will it be easier and cheaper to just go to a bigger bore engine? My 998 needs a complete rebuild anyway, so while doing the work, may as well play with it!
Any thoughts?

easy enough!....? :D
How big is the standard overbore? I know that everyone has different opinions on this one, just want to see what most go for. The bigger the better? If so, how far can you bore a 998 out? Normal day to day car, not a track car.

The magazine mini experience had an article by Graham Russell on building a good small bore engine. 80 and 100 thou are possible.

Worth trying to get a copy of those magazines (it ran over three issues from memory). PM Watto on here perhaps to see if the article or mags are still available.

No No, GR has a wall of them sitting there awaiting an unsuspecting small bore block
80" is recommended so you have another o/size.

Graham did my 1098 - bored out to +100 and supplied and fitted the pistons and assembled the short motor for me and set the cam timing and fitted the oil pump - included replaceing the cam bearings (I supplied the bearings as I already had them) around $1200

If I source the parts, Graham will fit?

Russell Engineering,
113 North Rocks Rd,
North Rocks, NSW
phone (02) 9630 2195.

Cost to bore and hone block $150 approx.
+ pistons...

Graham stocks +.080" and +.100" for both 998 and 1098..

You can go further, IF you can get pistons. +.120" are available for 998s but I've not seen them to suit a 1098.

BTW, the main difference between a 998 and 1098 piston is the pin height to the top (crown). A 1098 one is .148" shorter due to the 0.296" longer stroke.

So,
the pistons and rods are the only difference between 998 & 1098?
