http://img8.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00933jjx.jpg Well one of the links shows a noise suppression capacitor. It suppresses electrical ignition noise from ruining your radio interference. Not always required, but easy to put back on, just put it under the nearest coil mounting bolt and forget about it. The other link doesn't work... |

Its a supressor, its supposed to stop ignition noise interfering with your radio. It should be bolted to something thats earthed, or you can throw it away. Tim |

Oh lucky you, two suppression caps...twice the audio suppression power... ![]() Chuck one or both out. |

Wondering if with 2 suppressors the PO was having noise problems that were hard to get rid of - maybe needs new brushes in the alternator and clean up the commutator |

Alternators don't have commutators, they just have 2 slip rings so no commutation noise there... But if you must, you put it on the output stud, never the field connection. |

Thats what I meant - still might need a clean |

2 caps in series across the same supply add up like resistors in series. This changes the tuned filtering of both of the caps to twice the frequency. If you had a problem with noise, it probably will be improved by removing one. |
