Post subject:  Found another early clubbie
Hi Again all, What luck am i having(karma must like me at the moment) i have come across a very early clubbie, pale green, low back seats and a center speedo and ignition ( freaky) its complete but not running and at closer look has much less rust than my other clubbie, it is for sale and i wont say the price but i need to know if these are rare or should i get it to cut up for my other one or should i fix this one instead. i have never heard of a clubman with the old style center guage set up, could this be a previous mod or were they made that way and finally what at a rough guess do you guys think its worth. Sorry cant get any pics. But from previous posts you guys know more on the early ones than i do. Any info on this type of clubman would be great. Thanx again, you guys are legends

I'd say you have a rare thing there! What's the condition of the car, ignoring mechanicals?

It would be an educated guess, but i'd say it come from the factory like that. Leyland are well known to use up old bits.

It is nothing to do with using up old bits.
It is a poverty model Clubby called the Mini 1100
It should have centre speedo, magic wand (on a remote box) and rubber suspension.
The low back seats and centre key were standard on all 71 cars (Clubman, Clubman GT and Mini 1100)
The pale green is probably the corporate colours of the Sydney County Council.

The prefix on the Compliance plate is YG2S6 for the Mini 1100 and YG2S7 for the Clubman and YG2S8 for the Clubman GT.

i would keep the one you want.. but dont cut any of them up (why cut one up to save another- buy the panels and save two). im sure there are replacement panels out there even second hand.

It was driven to where its parked now so it did run, it was actually purchased off an old fella cos it was cheaper to buy the whole thing than the dash switch he was looking for!! it was allways garaged so rust is minimal and the paint has faded a bit as it now languishes in a paddock behind a shed,

Boat is now for sale in the non mini related section ov this site. MAN HAVE MANY MINI, MAN NEED MUCH CASH BUT MAN THINK ALL WORTH IT, MAN NO NEED TO FLOAT NO MORE :D

my daughter has one as well lots of confusion when we first got it we have (not knowing what it was)converted it to clubman ,remote change which had been done,clubman dash top crash pad highback seats.
finally got told what it was late last year :( will be staying as it is.
buy it if you can ,sell a kidney if necessary :lol:

Actually, no it's not.

At the risk of sounding pedantic, the name Clubman was only used on three models - The Mini Clubman, Mini Clubman S (but not until March or April 1973, and very soon changed to Leyland Mini S) and the Clubman GT.

The car in question is a Mini 1100. That's its proper model title. Morris 1100 is correct. It was a base model, or fleet model, and had dry suspension, magic wand gearstick and central speedo.

We actually have the history of all the base models in the next issue of TME (went to printers yesterday) from Mini Minor to Mini 1100 (round-nose) to Mini 1100 (square nose). Final installment was the last of the line, which will be in Issue 20.

Again, not quite correct.

Name changed to Leyland Mini 1100 in mid-1972 when the company officially changed from British Leyland Motor Corporation of Australia (BLMCA) to Leyland Australia. Car continued to be made until December 1972. January 1973 meant more changes with ADRs, and there were other changes to the range. Cars first advertised as Leyland Minis, Clubman and Clubman GT discontinued, hydrolastic discontinued.

What you have seems to be quite rare. I located one in Tassie which is pretty rough but mostly complete (has remote gearchange, but still has the hole in the floor for the magic-wand).

If anyone has a good, original example, we'd like to photograph it for the magazine.

I saw a fantastic example on ebay last year. It was at Moss Vale NSW. I am not sure of the colour but it looked like Bitter Apricot. I wish I knew where it went.

Hiya,

Also, the first Clubman GTs were built in July 1971, but may not have gone on sale until later.

There are several of these on Gavin's GT register (mine included).
