Post subject:  speedo question

Just finished the last box of bits and found this speedo in it. It has two odometers in the face and two seperate drives on the back.I have included a pic of the std[I think] type for early 850 showing the difference.
Open to any suggestions or ideas

In the UK they did make tripmeter speedos. Is that another drive on the back (pic is out of focus) or is it a reset knob/drive square?
It would have had a 180° bit of speedo cable to a knob next to the speedo. My Fiat had this setup too.

It has a separate drive [top LH corner on back] but is a smaller thread. it resets by pushing the drive in. That is only thing I can see on it to re-set. Seems a bit stupid way of doing it.It's a bit gummed up but the numbers try to move, or maybe they wanted you to see the milage in stero :)
I am wondering what model car it came from.

Any model numbers on it David or revolutions per whatever markings (can't remember the wording now but the code that tells you what it works with ) ?

The top one is miles and tenths. It only goes to 999.9
the bottom one is also miles and tenths going by the colours of the numbers. They are a bit faded. Max speed 90mph[very optimistic]
The only serial No. I can't completely read, but it's 51 118 605 01***
It was in this center housing. a paper or carboard one not plastic.

Thanks Doc about the tip off with the drive, Now I know what that liitle bit was that I threw into the trailer with the other rubbish :x :x . Oh well back thru the rubbish and find it.

It looks like an 850 speedo but isn't! I bet someone has had a play with it.

Lots of MGs, Morris and big Austins had the trip meter, they had a cable that run from the back of the speedo to the bottom of the dash.

This one on Ebay is from a Morris Cowley, it shows the re-set cable..

I was a happy s a pig in sh*t when I found the housing. The rats had eaten half of the one that was in my car. All I need now is some seats, the bloody things ate them as well. at least the cat ate the rats :D
