I read somewhere a while ago about how to change a mini to take 5 stud wheels and was wondering if anyone has done it, read about it, or thought about it?

Post photos when you're done.

Then get started on 5 stud 10 inch wheels.

I know in other car scenes they buy blank hubs and drill them out to whatever they want.

Ours are pretty skinny so not sure if you would have enough meat to do it.
I might be mistaken though.

You could put 5 studs on a 4" PCD on Mini drive flanges, but you'd have a pretty hard time finding wheels to fit.

You might have more luck with a 5x100mm pattern, but ... the obvious question...

You may be confused with people who have redrilled other wheels to fit a mini stud pattern...

Although these are I believe restricted to other four stud wheel patterns like an Escort.

Tricky is planning on putting 5 stud wheels on his AWD, probably using Nissan or similar drive flanges, but it's part of a much larger conversion with a lot of engineering

but is there really anything that necessitates 5 stud wheels?

If you want rims for your race car then go to morris 1100 drive flanges, They are 4-1/2" PCD 4 stud and there are plenty of rims to suit. Metric 115mm pcd are the same.
If you use 1100 flanges they fit into mini brgs and hubs and have 7/16" studs

Didnt know that and it sounds alot easier and sensible. Seems i'll be looking out for some Morris 110 drive flanges at some point in the future. how much are they worth? need 4 :S

1100 drive flanges fit the front, but will 1100 rear brakes fit on the rear?

BTW: the stud pattern is 4 x 114.3 (not 115) which is the same as a whole load of cars. Early Ford Lasers, some Toyotas and Nissans etc.

I guess I should have taken the measurement to one decimal place :D
As for the 1100 rears forget it. You can get a rear brake drum assembly of a few cars ie suzuki swift which is same stud pattern. They have self adjusting brakes that work with sealed hand brake cables. The cables will fit into the mini hand brake. IE mini thread 1/4"UNF suzzy 6mm .

If you widen the front track by using "S" discs then instead of using VERY heavy spacer drums use the suzzy ones and re-machine the suzzy stub axle to fit into the mini arm. This way you can end up with a light brake assembly and set the rear track to the required distance.

If you want rear discs then there are quite a few that can be fitted up in a similar set-up as long as the rims are bigger than 10"

If you want some 1100 drive flanges and the bigger CV I have some here.

Hmm, the suzuki rear drums idea sounds interesting. But I thought they ran a 4 x 100mm stud pattern? I'm no expert on those cars, so I'm probably wrong.

The suzzy SS80V mid to late 80's had 114.7mm stud pattern with 12" wheels. The front discs had a adapter plate bolted to the disc. The rears had drum with studs set into drive flange with taper roller brgs and slip on drum. the axle was sleeved into a tube beam axle. Just cut it off and re-machine to fit the mini arm.
