Hey all, A couple of quick question for you. The battery cable runs from the battery to the solenoid, a shorter cable the same as the battery cable runs from the solenoid to the: A: Coil B: Starter Motor I took pictures but they dont show. The coil has a wire that goes from the neg to the dissy? from the Positive to the ignition? Does anyone have a late clubman that has pics of this area? I have looked through the engine bay pick and my wiring diagrams but still unsure. Thanks again D |

You should have a battery cable on one side of the solenoid togerher with a few other brown wires, then a single starter cable to the other terminal of the Sol. Also on the solenoid there should be the tigger wire that comes from the Ignition switch, it goes on the small spade terminal on the side of the Sol. This wire should only have power when the key is turned to the start position. There should be no wires on the solenoid that go to the coil. If your Mini is fitted with a pre engage type starter motor ie Gemini starter then all the cables go on one side of the original remote soelnoid and a single wire approx 5 mm runs from the second terminal of the solenoid where the sterter cable was before to the male spade terminal on the starter solenoid. Like this the solenoid still works the same way but as a starter relay. It is not advisable to wire up a Gemini starter or any other pre engage starter to be energised directly from the ignition switch as this will put too much load on the ignition switch contacts. |

hey cv, ON the pic below you can see how my car was before. The solenoid terminal has both of those leads on one side and it worked fine. Is this weird? SO the starter cable goes to the pos on the starter motor? 
Here from another angle.

That's because you have a pre engaged starter motor (I can see it in the photo). The solenoid is in the starter (actually hangs off the side piggy back) and so there's no need for the traditional solenoid. It just acts as a terminal to make the battery cable reach the starter motor directly. Other than that, 12 volts for the coil comes from the ignition on, and another 12 volt feed from the start contact on your ignition switch to the male spade on the starter motor. |
