Post subject:  Home Dyno...?

Just wondering if anyone has actually attempted this before…..

http://www.niksula.hut.fi/~mdobruck/sii ... 0/dyno.htm

“To simulate road conditions whilst standing still, all we need do is to jack up the driving wheels of the car, put it in gear and use the throttle as if we were driving along the road.

To simulate road levels we need only apply varying pressure on the brake pedal.”

....it all sounds perfectly feasible, but I get the feeling that if I actually attempted it the exercise would end with me saying something like….. “and so you see officer that when it all went terribly wrong…”

sounds very dangerous for one.. but surely also puts un needed stress and heat into your brakes runs the driveshafts at a bad angle and loads up the gearbox etc... its not really a dyno anyway your not getting a power reading are you? might as well drive it down the street..

The trick is to drive the car onto a cattle grid and apply the hand brake, then just go for it.

No, you’re certainly not getting a power reading…..the article relates to using the colour tune system, and how to work out your mixture ratio under load….I’m certainly not advocating it…I could see the whole thing ending in disaster….but given that I’ve read a few articles suggesting this as a method for home tuning I’m simply interested to see if any one has actually tried it……

(Plus, I find the image of a the car up on stands with someone revving the hell out of it while someone else peers into the engine bay trying to work out the A/F ratio to be a bit funny )

The colour tune is not supposed to be used under load. It kills them.

This is the way to make a modern mixture tester that you can use why driving on an actual road (with accomplice in the car of course).

cheers
