How much oil does it take to fill a motor to it's correct level when you do a change including filter. I seem to be using nearly 5.8 litres or there abouts to get it to the top level on the dipstick. :?

Seems a bit to much to me. I have about half a pint left out of 5 litres when I did mine yesterday. Depends a bit on how much you pour into the filter.

Cheers, Ian

I normally fill the filter to the point where I can screw it on without spilling, and use pretty close to 5L exactly, leaving 1L of KMX for top-ups ;)

Always less than 5 litres, even with the big cartridge filter.

Going by the book it's to much but do I go by the book or the dipstick ?

Depends on the filter. The spin-on is smaller than the cartridge. There is a bit of variation in the spin-ons as well.

Stupid question, but is your car sitting flat?

I put in a straight 5L, it allows for the first month of leaks

I would be looking carefully at your dipstick. There is something wrong. Maybe the stick or the tube is the wrong one.

Might be a stupid comment but i have done that.

Allow a bit of time for the oil to go down the sump :?, don't check strait away.

Might measure it next time and go by the book. And yes it's on flat ground.

Are you sure that you've got a 6 litre container of oil? Maybe you've only got a 5 litre this time. Just an idea.
