If I were you I'd be taking that car off the road ASAP. sounds like an accident waiting to happen. Seriously. Take it off the road.

You should be 'conventrating' on that too BIAM

Anyway, is there any way you can pull the mini off the road for a few weeks and put up with public transport till you get your mini sorted? Sounds like it needs a fair bit of work with all of the threads you have been posting up lately (don't worry, I know what you are going through, my mini is also giving me grief). Do you have a good mini mechanic that can give it a look over?

How would you like an all expenses paid ride in a hearse? Seriosly, keep the car off the road until you get a REAL mechanic to check it out for you, or you'll end up destroying another mini just because you don't like the bus.

Oh, and you'll get that free hearse ride, maybe for others as well, won't that be nice?

Yep just because a car is a classic is no excuse for it to be allowed to break down/be unroadworthy/be a deathtrap.

Especially if you are driving it to school. Every day. With school mates.

I'm of the opinion that if you arent willing to do things properly when it comes to classic cars (ie either have a mechanic look after it or take the serious time to learn yourself) then you shouldn't have one. Stick to automatic transmission Excels with monster tachos and a shift light.

I actually flat out told one guy that came to look at my rover not to buy it, because he didnt even know how to check the tyre pressure.

To address the issue I guess we'd need to know if the car is remote or rod change.
A broken engine mount wouldn't have the effect described. I'd check out the condition of all the stabilisers, since its an easy job.

How about engine steady braces , I snapped one while playing silly buggers years ago and the motor was hitting the firewall on each gear change , the gear lever (rod change box) was kicking about as well .

I remember at minis on the murray a few years ago there were a lot of us un a mini that went over a speedbump a bit quick. Ripped the rear mount off the gearbox.

Yep, check the engine mounts, Engine steady bushes & mounts, and the gearshift mounts.

As others have said, my bet is the engine steady bushes are shagged, and the gearbox extension mount (if remote) is broken.

Be careful if you get under the car to look, please!
