your one with the centre ignition was an early poverty pack model, would have had a centre speedo and probably a magic wand gearchange too

When did they delete the speedo hole.. around '76?

floor pans are different... reversing lights got added i think...
Steering wheels.
clocks origianlly in miles and km's then only km's.
side mirror used to be chrome then went to black plastic one.
carpet eventuall went to a moulded type early ones had many pieces. seatbelts had retractables at the end not at start......

Rubber Unis > Pot joints
2 dial dash > 3 dial dash.
Steel wheels with hubcaps > Steel sports wheels + Flares.
Rotodip > Rust
Single circuit brakes > Dual circuit brakes.
Badges Mini Clubman > Leyland Mini S.
Blue engine paint > Black engine paint.
Manual pump windscreen washer > Electric washer > changed washer bottle.

Hi guys, i have a slightly mentally challenged mate who informes me there is no difference between early clubbies and the later ones . i have both here at the moment(both shells only an 1 more on the way on sat) and as you know they are both different (centre ignition,different oil filters, polution gear etc). i am hoping everyone out there can give me a few more things that r different so i can overload his brain with mini facts an watch his head explode he has also told me that the ss clubbie does not exsist WNKR they doo, ive owned one Get him guys, shut him down

depends how you define 'early' and 'late' - there was a 'middle' too your one with the centre ignition was an early poverty pack model, would have had a centre speedo and probably a magic wand gearchange too the early ones had hydro till '73, 1098cc motors till '74, and other stuff... but you could just tell him that the really early ones had 1600cc twin cam motors and a 6 speed gearbox - doesn't matter anyway

Christ, it's going to be a long list! Rod change gearbox from 73 on, dual circuit brakes from 78, 1098 engine became 998 in about 74. If you really want to be pedantic, the Clubman ceased to exist in 73, and subsequent cars were called the Leyland mini. I'll post more once my memory kicks in.

There was lots of changes in the Clubman/Leyland Minis over the years. Most of the changes were due to ADRs (Australian Design Rules) but other changes were due to the closure of the Zetland factory and move to Enfield. They only changed with the introduction of steering locks which was an ADR requirement.

the body also changed quite a bit, have a gork at the baulk head, in the middle section where it dips down around & under the carby area,,, the laer shells the main dip section actually dips lower than the early ones & there were even more changes here & there altho most were just suptle & "almost" insignificant

Floor pans just had 2 bumps and holes added for the rodchange mounting. The basic floor pressing was otherwise unchanged 1967-1978, all have the 2 hydro pipe channels in. We never ever got the square tunnel UK floor here. But NZ did.

Are normal late Leyland Mini's badged as 'Leyland Mini' or still Clubmans? Cherry is a 76 Leyland Mini S and has both the S badge on the grill and the Mini Clubman badge on the boot?
