Post subject:  Lowering

Hey,

A quick question, i have 12inch minilites and all the suspension etc is standard. The thing i wanted to ask is can i run 12inch wheels with lowered gaz or similar shocks without any body mods?
Can i see some pics comparing standard height with lowered minis?

Thanks blake

You should clarify if you have flat or spaced drums (or discs).
Rim offset and tyre with could be a factor too.

Just to clarify, lowered shocks will not lower the car itself, they are to be used on a lowered car. With "dry" suspension you can use "hi-lo's" to replace the standard gear, therefore making ride-height adjustable.

I'm sorry if you already know that, i just got the impression from your post that you think the shocks would lower the height of the car.

also if you cant afford hilos..then you can trim the trumpets down,,,, however i havent tried it.. have a read of David Vizards "how to modify your mini"

If you trim the trumpets make sure that the cut is square and flat other wise the pin from the ball will crank over in the end of the trumpet.
The other thing is that it will also affect the steering geometry in regards to the movement of the rack arms. The toe will have to be re-set.

Talking about the lowering, What is the original height of 89 mini front and rear anyway?

as long as you can maintain a minimum height of 100 MM with the car fully loaded its O.K>, I have mine set at about 130mm, and it goes over speed humps with a little tap every now and then so I wouldn't set it any lower than that or your sumpguard will become a speed hump for the following car.

So for original height 150mm to 160mm should be okey you think?
