im in need of a spray gun im not wanting to fork out ridiculous amounts of money though, so my choice is fairly limited. im just wondering if you can use the high pressure guns to spray the mini. they seem alot cheaper than the HVLP. i have had experience with the star s770 gun however i dont know if that gun was a high (regulated to 30/40 psi) or low pressure gun. i found a "work quip" gun. has anyone had experience with this gun? did it produce a nice finish? what guns have you used and what works the best? cheers Leighton |

the star s770 is a copy of an Iwata , great for general painting. Most paints are recomended to be sprayed at 35psi, and is great for general paint applications.We even use one in our shop. Be careful with cheap hvlp guns as they tend to spray like a garden hose. A nnew star should cost about $170 , if you keep it clean it should last a lifetime. |

I have a Star HVLP but it is takiing me quite a lot of practice to achieve a similar finish to my Star S770. |

ok thanks for that... i was also wondering.... is there 3 different types of spray guns 1. HVLP 2. low pressure 3. high pressure or is there just two 1. HVLP 2. high pressure (which is then regulated to 30/40 psi for spraying cars) |

Check ebay, there is a company selling Iwata W77 guns on there. I have used one for years. Top quality gun usually retail at close to $350 these days. He is selling them for $190. Just bought one yesterday to put aside as a spare.BAGAIN. You get what you pay for when it comes to guns. |

Couldnt tell you what the best is, but at work I use the same as most, the star s770, at home for priming I have a Sampson s90. Both good guns as far as I can see. I also use at home a little scorpian gravity fed. Not sure of model number, and am too lazy to go look!

I have a both a samson and a scorpion guns both are gravity fed. I think the scorp was 100 on special and the samson was about 150ish but it was discounted cause i was also buying a compressor. Both guns spray really well but won't break the bank. |

I acquired a new Binks Bullows (now DeVilbiss) model 222 spray gun many years ago and was planning to use it on the restoration of my car, but I don't have a lot of spraying experience. Does anyone know whether this gun is suitable for an inexperienced but willing to learn beginner? What sort of compressor would I need? |

I have a little 75litre compressor that pumps at 13cfm. Dont quote me, but I have been told on a few occasions that 13cfm would be the minimum. Please correct me if I am wrong. Get in contact with your local paint supplier, as people like ppg do workshops to show people how to blend, spray metalics, etc, etc. It may be useful for you. |
