howdy all,
need to get my round nose shell into primer asap, its sitting in the open at the moment and it will slowly rust away if im not careful.

My question is this, some parts of the car need rust repairs, however, for the good parts of the car, i was thinking just about stripping it back to bare metal and putting an etch primer onto it, how thick should this layer be, it will probably sit like this for a fair while before i can get other options sorted. Should i just buy the pressure pack cans of etch primer? Also with the parts of the body i do need to replace, whats the best way of going about that? going to strip the paint back, should i cut out the nasty bits, treat surrounding ares with fish oil or is that unnecessary because im cutting all the rust out?

robbie, primer isnt waterproof, so if you spray it in primer and leave it outside, youll be in the weeds and have to do it again!

not sure about the red oxide stuff, that may be waterproof?

I would be covering the shell in xtroll where it has developed rust or where there is any bare metal for the time being (1yrs or how ever long untill your are ready), if the sheel is outside get a waterproof car cover (autotecna make a good one) or tarpaulin and when you are ready to paint the car i would be sandblasting it and do the painting process once and correctly.. primer is porous (takes on water) but even leaving it undercover or in a shed in primer is bad for a long duration as the moisture in the air will find its way to your primer.. Presure pack no way.. you could paint some house paint over the car if your are just trying to keep it from rusting for a while and you intend on sandblasting it later...

paint it in 2 pac higfill primer, you can paint acrylic paint over it and ot is waterproof so it does not matter how long you leave it before painting

you can also use 2pak epoxy primer which is also water proof.

if you'd be so kind matt, would love it. The shell's got some rust holes in it, so the idea was to strip and repair it one panel at a time then cover it one panel at a time, chances are i'll run out of time if i try and do it all at once and it'll sit in bare metal for a day.
