I scored a worked 998 with some good gear on/in it......I took the engine number prefix (99H791P) and asked a contact I have at the RTA whether this was OK for my Clubby. His reply was "The information supplied to us from the manufacturer, indicates that the engine number prefix of 99H791 was available in a 1975 model Leyland Mini. If your vehicle was built prior to July 1976, it would then be a suitable engine. The ADR's for emission control changed from ADR 27 to ADR27a in July 1976. What a bummer.....JAM is a 8/1976..... How stupid is the system though...the blocks are the same!!!!! are they not? So I will have to strip this block and strip JAM's original block to transfer the internal goodies.... ![]() |

wuss, get an oilstone, get some letter punches and swap the numbers over - better yet, swap the engine and don't even tell RTA.... my mini K was registered with the original 1098 when I bought it, but it was actually fitted with a clubman motor which vicroads didn't know about, I swapped the clubman motor for an 1100S, and vicroads still didn't know about it.... pffft |

the car is unregistered.....and will be inspected for rego..... ![]() ![]() Years ago I bought a VC SL/E Commo with a stroked 308 and corvette gearbox. The motor was actually out of a HQ Holden, and the RTA said 'no rego for you!' So I had to swap it over. This thing flung you into the back seat when you put the pedal to the metal! ![]() |

My camry needed a NSW blue slip before I could transfer it from SA plates to NSW. The blue slip registration thing is sort of there to stop dodgy cars coming in from interstate ![]() |

It's got a `74 1098 in it. As you say, bummer. This also means if I want to fit a 1275 to this Clubbie it has to be an LS, or 1275 Moke, or later block. Bloody rules... crap it's only a Mini, innit! Highly illegal, but it's things like this that cause people to change engine numbers.. I saw a 1275 Mini that got registered last month, it has a Morris 850 engine number. ![]() |

So if I want to have a 1275 in JAM, it has to be from an LS or Moke too right? ![]() |

![]() Legally yes. But they never used to enforce this rule. Oz's car is a `77 I think, has a MK2 S motor in it. Gareth's Clubbie van used to have a MK1 S in it. Stupid thing is, the blocks are all the same (pretty much)- the emission crap is all on the head. |

Geez I have/had a 1275 in what was an 850 or 1100 and nobody said a word to me? This is in the ACT who are pretty strict so quite surprising. It is a 71 model but still no one even raised the issue with me. |
