i think the only way it could be done is to put a bolt through the The door.

I'm sure some one mentioned it?

if you can link me to a thread i'm going to put it in, them doors are so easy to break into it's not funny.

Just take your valuables with you.

Where I used to live in London, everybody who parked on the street would leave their gloveboxes open and empty so that people would know not to bother breaking in.

Mind you if you've got a decent stereo, you're buggered :(

for piece of mind. something is better then nothing.

i was thinking something in the rear bins & shoots a rod etc through the hole drilled to lock the door.

has anyone done this? maybe some one has done something better?

Yep, one ausmini member did it this way with his Starlet Mini. Works fine.

he basically mounted a central locking motor to the end of a 75mm barrell bolt ,using a folded piece of sheet metal to hold it in place

Actually sliding windows doors can be quite secure. Replace the lever on the pass. side with a drivers door lock; makes the car hard to get into because unlike modern cars , there's no little lever/button to pop up to open the door once you get through the window.

Deadlock bolts fitted under the normal door lock used to be "not - uncommon". Try Holdens (in the UK)???

Back when I was at uni, Minis ... and break-ins.... were quite common. Deluxes went missing too often. With an 850 my biggest expense was for new door handles. Standard technique was to lean on the handle to try and snap the locking mechanism. On my car to door handle would give first.

You should try getting into a Mini without door handles (admittedly I didn't want to break windows). Eventually I became quite good at it but it was still not a trivial activity.

Well you're not really asking about making your car more secure now do you? Sliding window doors lock fine but you want the convenience of remote central locking........ in a 45 year old mini (or about that age judging by the sliding windows).

That seems like a waste coz you'll sink all that effort into butchering the (getting ever rarer) sliding window doors, cutting the pillars to fit the locks and making holes in the A pillar to fit the wiring etc. Ordinarily when that next tosser wants to break into your car, they will open it with a mail box key, find a loud alarm and an immobiliser and nothing of value inside and leave it alone. But with a fancy central locking bolt in the pillar system, they will take to your lock barrels with a screwdriver, or break a window or do other creative stuff causing 100s of $ in damage. Whats the point?
