Post subject: | Front Number Plate bracket |
I've noticed that most aussie minis have a (usually body colour) bracket which lifts the number plate out and up in front of the front bumper. My plate is just attached directly to the 2 bracket thingys under the bumper and is always getting caught on driveways etc. My plate has been mangled to hell by this constant damage. At some stage i plan on getting some personalised plates but won't ntil I know it'll be safe ![]() One solution is to get a narrower plate style, as mine is just the standard, it would give me an extra cm or two. Also reckon i've maybe got another cm from replacing my cones, which i plan on doing sometime soon as I suspect they're a bit old and compressed. Can you get these plate brackets anywhere??? I can't see them for sale anywhere and they're not in the Mini King catalogue as far as I can see...??? |

The bracket to move the plate up in front of the bumper was an Aussie invention. I personally prefer the look without it, using a slimline front plate and maybe a little bending... ![]() Weevel, assuming your car is a Rover then you should be able to fit the Aussie bracket by drilling a couple of holes in it to line up with the existing plate mountings. Easy job. Cheers, |

i forget who i was talking to about this on sunday possibly andy? i havent managed to get mine caught on anything yet(i dont have the bracket to move it up)but im planning on getting custom slimline plates(or seeing if its possible to get the front plate remade as a slimline i think someone had it bolted directly to the front bar although that would leave holes if you ever decided to go back to the original mounting |

Thanks guys. I'm not sure what I prefer, but I do know that I'd prefer it that my plate wasn't mangled. When I first moved into my house (my driveway is the main place that the damage happens), I was breaking cheapo bolts (and expanding the holes in the plate) every few times i took the car out so I ended up having it flapping held on by cable ties. Then the car was in at Mini Classic and Greig bashed it back into shape and attached it with stronger bolts, which have now been OK for about 9 months but then I caught it on the pavement again a couple of weeks ago... Serendipitously, I will be in Brisbane at the weekend, staying with friends only a couple of suburbs away from TheMiniMan so should be able to pop over and pick one up from him and give it a try. |

check out topic http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic ... 888e5b24db Has a pic of 2 Minis, one with number plate under bumper and one in the original position. Should help you make up your mind. I like it in front of the bumper because that's the way it's always been and it looks right to me. Nothing wrong with personalising though if that's what looks good to you. Pete |

Weevel! Are you going to have any free time to come see us all at Capalaba on Saturday morning? (probably about 15/20ish minutes down the freeway from where youre staying by the sounds of it ![]() |

We're visiting friends and we both have babies but only 1 car with a child seat, so anywhere we go will be by foot, pubic transport or by doing a couple of return trips, so Capalaba is maybe too far.... I did notice the thread and looked at the possibility last week but don't think it's a goer. |
