I've just ordered a "gearbox kit" for the GT and noticed that it comes with non-genuine cheap arse baulk rings. The mob I bought the kit from also advertises genuine Rover "sintered type" as well as competition grade "induction hardened" type.

They claim on the website that the genuine sintered standard rings have been known to fail after only one race!!!

I'm thinking of buying the "competition type" ... at around 30 bucks, it hardly seems worth debating but I thought I'd put it out there anyway......What are the opinions of those here regarding the 3 different types... I've heard people in the trade refer to the current rings on the market as "all crap"!

FWIW the competition grade rings are around $10 cheaper than the Genuine Rover ones .....

Interested in your thoughts and experiences and what people here have used.

The genuine Rover ones are OK for a street car but for competition I'd go the MSC competition ones.
The non-genuine sintered ones are a lottery- some are oval or wrong taper, some break the 2nd time you change gear, as pristic found.

I've been using old ones, if not badly worn I surface grind .020" off the side that faces the gear.
The very best s/h ones for this are those out of the 3 synchro boxes, with M or W marks forged on the outside. These rings were forged steel, not sintered powder.
