The rear part of the wiring loom, which way does it route, does it go through the wheel arch or does it run under the cover next to the fuel line then into the first side bin.. which is the way i ran it... i forget ???

I'm pretty sure they run under the cover on all models.

If you are going for strict authenticity then run them here, but if you are after safety, take them across to the other side of the car and run them alongside the brake lines.

From experience, unless everything is perfect inside the sidebox (when is a moke ever perfect?) things will move around and the wires can chafe on metal and wear through. This can lead to sparks and burning wire insulation - this can happen anywhere, if your rubber grommets are worn, etc - but when it happens next to the fuel tank it can be disastrous.

And it doesn't have to be in the sidebox where the wire rubs to cause a problem in there. If a wire shorts out anywhere along its length, the whole wire will heat up and the entire insulating plastic can melt. I have had this where the wire shorted out under the bonnet, and the whole wire was toast.

Even if it doesn't cause a fire, just getting the wire out to replace it means dropping the fuel tank!

I have seen quite a few Mokes around over the years with these wires cut off at each end and new wires running down the driver's side of the car.

When my Moke was rebuilt back in 1991, we ran all the wiring down the driver's side, so there is no wiring anywhere near the fuel tank.

Just something to think about.
