hey all, so i'm driving in to work this morning, everything's going fine, no problems whatsoever, and then, out of nowhere, the car stops. the engine just stops running and won't start again. it's turning over, but not catching. i had a look at the oil and it was quite low, so i topped it up in the hope that would have some effect - it did not. my car is currently parked in the city (it's a miracle there was a space there) while i try and figure out what to do. any ideas on what is wrong here? |

you've lost power to the coil... check the wires behind the ignition switch... they fall off sometimes. You can get home by putting a wire straight from the fuse box to the coil, then check everything over at home |

You need to check the basics , you've either run out of fuel (fuel pump died , wire off electric fuel pump etc) or run out of spark (wire off coil , hidden safety/isolation switch bumped , coil packed it in , points burnt out , wire off starter solenoid , ingition switch cactus etc ) . What does your mini have as far as fuel pump ? Check the connections to the coil and also the starter solenoid , also have you changed anything in the electrical system lately ? |

listen to sports850, a car needs fuel and spark to run. so check those first. Easy way to test is take a spark plug out and turn the engine over with the spark plug head earthed, if it sparks its fuel related. If it does spark work back to your fuel tank, check your float bowl to see if its got fuel in it, if it doesnt it could be your fuel pump. Working back til you find a fault is the best thing. This happened to me a few times in a suzuki sierra, got it home by using an air compressor as a fuel pump lol. |

hehe, happened to me right in the middle of the Indooroopilliy roundabout. was the coil, then Steve from Mini Club comes around the corner in same colored car and helps me get it off the road. Walked up to repco bought a coil. Back on the road less than an hour later. |

Ballistic came to the rescue! What a champ! Scott came and met me at the car after work. We think distributor cap is the problem? My car's at Scott's place now - coincidentally I had booked it in with him to go in to the shop today for a separate issue! |
