I like the ticking.. became part of the start-up procedure! was good to know the fuel pump was still working!

key in ignition
listen for clicking - check
prime carby - pump accelerator twice
press starter button
let all hell break loose.

Fuel Pumps are always noisey if mounted straight to the Body or chassis. I use little rubber mounts which cushion the sound and minimizes it. These mounts I use bobbin type mounts smaller than the ones on the gear lever mechanism on rodchange boxes. When you can hear a pump it is a sign that it is working. From the sound it makes you can tell if it is pumpimg fuel or it is dry.

I'm with the others - I like the sound and it tells you the thing is working. It's only at start up - you don't hear it when the engine is running

There's two types of SU pump you can buy, one with the traditional points in the back end and another with electronic. The electronic type is naturally a few dollars more.

Other than that, mount the facet with the same rubber mounts you use for holding up a rod change gearstick, and the noise will pretty much disappear.

i think mine is mounted directly to the body, it echoes in the car a bit.

all cars modern ones also but mine seems louder then normal & in comparison to my mates mini also with electric fuel pumps.

Facets are louder than su type (have a 65 with facet and 77 with SU). But if your concerned mount it on some rubber insulator.
Also when you run out of fuel it ticks loud and fast so you know what is wrong! and when it loads up with fuel it quietens down.

Sounds like it's hard mounted because mine is loud but only at startup with engine off. When engine running, can't hear it (well can't hear anything over the 2" zorst but that's a different story...)
