Hi Guys need a bit of input about my brakes.
I have converted my 76 clubbie to 8.4 discs with slotted / x drilled rotors and new ebc black stuff pads .The brakes will pull up ok but only if you press them very hard .I am running standard rears and master cylinder , is there anything i could do to improve the pedal apart from installing a vh44 which i am currently rebuilding?

Well.... with the understanding that a booster does nothing to improve the braking efficiency just reduces the pedal pressure required to achieve the same thing.

I run discs on my mini and yes I do have to push hard to do a big stop but it does stop and in a very much shorter distance than when it had drum brakes all round.

But I dont pop passengers through the front windscreen with a light tap on the brakes which is often the result of a booster.

Fitting a booster will be a quick way to tell if you have the right sized rear wheel cylinders fitted too. A big stab on the brakes in the wet will spin you if the rear wheel cylinders are the wrong size (too big) and I dont know which is right for your brake set-up.

It may pay you to have someone who knows minis check your brakes and drive the car to see if the brakes themselves are working properly. Even without a booster I noticed a huge difference the first time the car with discs fitted.

your pads are too hard i think and arent getting warm enough to work well enough on the street

I thought Green stuff pads were best for no booster.
That said, mine are boosted. Don't know what my pads are, but driving is much nicer with the booster. Pedal pressure still much harder than our 90 Corolla and seems not to want to put anyone thorgh the windscreen.
My car was very hard to stop, with booster it is great.

Blackstuffs are not a hard pad. They are softer and bitier than Greenstuffs. Especially when cold.
My 7.5s work fine with Blackstuffs, but I guess the pedal is a little bit harder than with drums. But, they will stop hard more than once.
