going gently around a left-hand corner near work this morning and it felt like something in the steering let go, it tried to keep going straight I got it around the corner and pulled up, switched the engine off and looked over the front end and everything was in place. I remembered what Doogie said about the last time his diff broke in a motorkhana, he had full drive on one wheel, the car just wanted to go in one direction - same kind of feeling. I probably shouldn't have, but I started the engine again put it in 1st gear and tried to move it - had drive, no noises, but now it's jammed in 1st gear ![]() bugger! gotta pull it all apart again ![]() ![]() |

You'd better move your bed into the garage as soon as you get home Simon , you know what your wife's reaction to the mini breaking again will be ... While it doesn't sound good , I've got everything crossed that it will be something simple and not involving tiny pieces of metal that may have found their way into oil galleries . |

Hopefully - its "overlocked" in first gear and nothing else. The diff is a different problem. Box off - sleep in the garage - sorry mate Mike |

![]() yep - I'd hoped it would survive past August, dad is going over with Watto and I was going to get him to bring me one... there was an obscene amount of swarf on the sump plug when I changed the oil before Hay, I expect there's more in there now |

You shouldn't go round corners gently in a Mini, what were you thinking? Unless you have an LSD then a breakage in the diff would normally mean no drive at all. I can't imagine that being stuck in 1st is related, I look forward to hearing the news when you get it apart. Pete |

ok, here`s my bet,,, the planetary gears (or one of them) has split into a couple (or a few) bits & one of those bits has flung out of the diff carrier & now jammed into the selector fork thingamyjig |
