Anybody know anything about this manifold?
4" long and takes 1.25" SUs and seems well made.
Probably made for a N/S engine but I think it might fit my MG.
So what would be the performance characterisics?
More torque?
What effect does having the ballance tube back up closer to carbies?

Just makes it easier to get to the manifold nuts,

I take it you are referring to the position of the balance tube?

big yellow Vizard has a bit of detail about the difference in balance tubes... nothing I can remember though

Looks a bit long for a Mini, maybe it was made for a Sprite or Morrie Minus?
Check the flange angle- Sprites and Morries were usually 20°, and Minis 30°.

I'll check that in the morning. I think I could just squeeze it into
the MG 1100 with a custom made airfilter.
This is something I would like to do if one one or two of you tuning
wizards could tell me what effect it could have on performance.

Theoretically a longer manifold is supposed to offer more torque , but in practice I'm not sure (there's something for someone to test with an engine dyno , same engine , same carbs , different length manifold ???) . I do know though that the photo of Peter Manton's 997 cooper in an older edition of TME shows a spacer of some form between the normal manifold and the carbs to get a similar length to your manifold .

EDIT> crappy photo of the mag page but check out the location of the carbs compared to normal

Well I work with this guy and he wanted to get rid of this BIG
box of mini bits that he had sitting at the front of his house.
In this box was a 1275 Clubman block, a cupla heads, a complete
1100 motor, some panels, a complete roundy grill, some fattened
cromies all sorts of stuff and this manifold.
I don't have a Mini but I have this very neat MG crying out for a bigger
donk.

I just remembered I had a similar setup on my A30 when I was a youngster. I got it off one of my Teachers' at School who had a couple of MG Midgets. Was a nice little setup, and it would have been too long to fit on a Mini. Don't think it had Sonic cast into it though so must have been somebody else's design.
