Hey Peoples

I wanna put some modern retractable seat belts in my roundie. Anyone got any suggestions for the best/easiest way to go?? Should I use clubman ones or is there a better conversion (I'm looking for as modern and nice as possible, at a reasonable price).

Klippan brand belts

From Repco or the like.....they make them to suit Mini's, amongst other things.

If and when I am cashed up again, I want red klippan belts for JAM :D

Klippan 1412 is p/no for the fronts. Drill another hole in the reel's bracket then cut the surplus end off, so it will clear the door bins OK. As long as you are not running Clubbie seats... :x

Agree with JAM there - too important to risk second hand ones that may have been in a prang. How old is your roundie? Somewhere in there they started putting a threaded bolt hole in the door pillar for the third attachment but I remember way back my original Mini needed a hole drilled and a spacer put in. My original Mini was a 64 model and my current one is a 63 and it has the attachment point built in - go figure :?

The problem with the Clubbie seats is, they stick out further, and tilt mechanism fouls the inertia reel thingy. Unless you keep the seats way forward..
After bolting them into Barney for 2 days, I took 'em out- I would have needed a chiropractor soon.
Barney how has 2x NOS Klippan static belts in front.
He'll shortly get one replaced by a Monza 4 point harness from Repco, yes it has ADR approval. :wink:

Can't you mount the inertia reel thingy in the rear side pockets out of the way?

Where were they mounted in Clubmans??

They were mounted into the inner sill like early Minis but behind the B pillar. The Clubby inner sill actually has 2 lots of holes & captive nuts... the early ones are still there too.
Whatever you do, don't bolt them to the pockets-the forces will rip them off the floor! :shock:
Barney had some Clubby inertia belts mounted there by the PO- I took them out for safety.

So if I mount them where they were in clubbies will they still foul on the seat - i can't have the seat movement restricted as i need to sit a fair way back (like as far back as the seat goes!!)

No they won't foul the seat but you would need to hack the ashtray etc out to clear the belts, then remove the sills, fit captive nuts to inner sills, etc. Too much work. And would need engineering, probably.
I found it easier to go buy a harness instead.. :wink:
:idea: Leave mounts where they are, then go buy the seats you always wanted- Momos, Cobras, whatever.. :wink:
