lads & gents. i need some advice.

righto, engine coming back out. not today dam rain!

i wish it did'nt but there is to much play, thrust bearings shot.

I'm going to give it to some one to pull it apart.

while he has it apart i was thinking! why not put in some new rings & pistons in? They are cheap ( thinking put the same size but new ones in? )

I'm not going to rebuild it & i don't wanna do it up to go super fast just want a bit more life out of it while he is replacing the thrust Bearings.

(cant afford to recon yet, not that it needs it)

Side note how much to recon my old steering rack.

if the thrust bearings are stuffed, then how do you know that everything else is OK?



nup, don't put in new pistons without a rebore - re-ring the old pistons maybe, but see above, I bet the bores are no good

if you're going to have it apart, all new bearings are a must



see above - I bet you'll need a reco



the parts are cheap - new bush, a lockring or two, boots and oil - $50-$70, I do them myself

The engine has only done 80,000k or so. It's a 2nd hand A+

There is about 20 though play there and I was told new thrust bearing and
while at it new clutch kit would sort that out.

i guess i wont know 100% till it is apart.

The must do's are
1. New clutch oil seal
2. New timing case seal
3. New oil pump
4. New timing chain
5. New high flow water pump.

Bearings arn't expensive and worth the investment.

While its out and apart its also worth getting the block hot dipped to remove all the crud the water galleries etc.

The seals are about $10 each - unsure specifically

Oil pump - about forty bucks
Timing chain - about the same
Bearing about forty a set

Been a while since i bought them though

Main bearings for an A+ motor are dear, around $100/set, + the bigends about $30/set. Thrust washers $12 or so.
Oil pumps now are about $60.
If you are NOT going to change the piston rings, don't take the pistons and rods out of the motor. The rings will never seal well if you do.

Just some small advice.......PLEASE dont take short cuts when re-doing your engine and or gearbox.......It will bit you in the ar$e sooner than later....do it right the first time and you will have many happy hours of mini-ing

I dont mean to preach but ive seen (and im sure many others here have as well) short cuts done that have cost a fair few dollars and end up in my workshop (or thier workshop) within 12 months they are having to spend that and a bit more to fix the stuff they have just had done as well as repair further damage.
