Got a problem with my speedo cable. It's an A+ block and a Morris Centre binnacle. When I got the A+ engine it came with a clip on the speedo cable to go onto the binnacle (I assume this is the clubby type?). So I bought a new speedo cable with screw connection on both ends. When I screw the cable on to the engine end, about 1/2 an inch of cable sticks out the other end, so I can't get the cable to do up on the binnacle. The cable doesn't appear to be engaged into the motor either as I have run the car with the cable connected to the speedo (but not done up) and it is not registering on the speedo. Any tricks of the trade in getting the cable into the gear on the block? Not having much luck. ![]() |

connect the cable to the engine, twist the inside whilst pushing on it until it engages in the connecter on the engine, its a square and probably hasnt engaged properly. Should move freely if it doesnt then use some graphite powder on it, dont use oil, as the oil will travel up the cable and into the back of the speedo, and then stuff the speedo up. EDIT: If it wont engage, then take the clip and insert off on the gearbox, and clean it out. Could be full of crap. |

Not so easy to do with the engine in... I'll give it another go tonight. Right bastard to get to though. I elected to take the drive shaft out to get better access to it. Now I get grease up to my elbow whenever I stick my arm up there. I need to find a pygmy to employ to give me a hand and an arm. |

That's why I had children. No way can I fit my arm down there. |
