Hi, It finally occurred to me that it might be a good idea to look under the spare tire for rust: 
There was also some under the battery: 
Considering when I shine a light towards both these areas, I can look underneath the car and see a nice pattern of lights on the ground, I assume this rust is quite bad... Can people confirm this? What should I do about it? Cheers, Harry |

That's pretty bad dude... you can replace the battery box with a new one. The spare tyre well is going to be abit more work though |

Same as mine. Had to replace the whole boot floor & battery box. Then found we had to cut the back off to get the new floor in.

Battery box is no chance and has to be replaced. On the rest of it Id get a wire wheel and a grinder on it, but Looks like its gone. |

Mine looked just like that. Was only rusted in the bottom. I cut the bottom out but left 4mm all around, it was fine there, not rusty. Then I cut a piece of 2mm steel plate to drop inside. Welded all around, lick of paint and it was fine. That was 15 years ago, it's still fine.
