Post subject:  Suspension

Hi folks.

I'm looking at replacing my cones and thinking of going for the Alex Moulton Smootha Ride set from minisport:

http://www.minisport.com/acatalog/info_MSLMS0400.html

With the exchange rate at the moment they'd be a bit over $520 plus shipping.

I'm also condsidering just replacing the cones but they're $440 alone in australia plus shipping.

Either way, i think my car really needs some refreshing around this area as it's the bumpiest/harshest mini i've had out of the 3 i've owned.

My question is - what will I need to do the work, are there special tools, other parts i should be replacing, or any particular tricky things to watch out for?

I don't want to order everything, set aside a day/weekend to put them in and then find i should have bought some new grommets that are known for wearing out or a special tool or something, and then end up with my car sitting on axle stands for 2 weeks whilst i wait for a part.

As the car is no longer a weekend warrior, i need it for the daycare drop-off run in the mornings 3 days a week, I need to be able to start on a Saturday knowing that I have a decent chance of having everything fixed by the following Tuesday evening at the latest!!

you need a rubber cone compressor that will fit the threads in your rubber cones. Since you've got a rover, the new cones you get will be the same as what's in your car now, but I've got no idea which thread it is

replace the knuckles (ball and cup) while you've got it apart - you need 4 of them: http://www.minisport.com.au/prod863.htm

It looks like the knuckle ball and cup come with the kit any way so he will be silly to discard the new ones ! If I was to go to that extent of a Job I would prefer to go to progressive springs Kit. That will definately transform the ride and make it cumfy. You you can get spring Kits of different grades now (Road or Race) and combine them with hi lows and you have real suspension. I know a few people who have them and they love them. (Gazza is one !) . Tell them Gazz
