Post subject:  small parts buying from the UK
Hey all

just curious on peoples thoughts...
Say...erm...If one individual :roll: :P, was traveling to England for a wee little trip, would there be anything that would be reasonably cheaper over there, that would be benificial ($$ wise?) to purchase (and fit in luggage) rather then buying it here?...

Just a curiosity or otherwise luggage space will be occupied by mini models, and mini gear i can find :roll: :lol:

NB: appolagirs for any errors in spelling...im doing my best....its early morning and i've been into the bundy :roll: :P :lol:

Post subject:  Buying Mini stuff from the UK to bring with you to Australia
I am going there for the IMM in Longbridge. And my thoughts are that My suitcase will be full of parts to bring back and I will just throw out all my clothes and leave them behind as I am only allowed 30Kg luggage. So I will only be taking clothes that I will not need any more. No Guchi or Loui Viton clothes ! Mainly target and K mart gear Or Probably St Vinneis. I think I will be going crazy there.

Just remember that the weight limits on baggage is the killer.
The last time I went overseas they didn't check the weight of the carry on bag.
On one trip from the US my carry on bag was a Ford Boss 302 cylinder head wrapped in cardboard and string.

It is sometimes easier to post things home from overseas than to pay extra baggage. :wink:

Good tip this, in 20 years of flying I've never had my carry-on bag weighed, or even measured for that matter.

My brother had to open his carry-on at LA airport. The security guards thought the Ford tie-rod ends looked like guns in the X-ray machine. :lol:

X-rayed yes, of course, but never inspected by the airline. Mind you, in the US these days I'd be careful about carrying a newspaper on board, they're so paranoid.

I once carried an electric screwdriver on board a Qantas flight and was questioned by the X-ray staff, my response was "what am I going to do, dismantle the aircraft mid flight? I'll kinda be noticed doing that..."

They let me through. No way I'd try that these days, they'd throw away the key.

I am currently living in Switzerland but travel quite a bit in the Job. Most international carriers are now weighing hand luggage and also trying to restrict hand luggage to one bag, or a PC and one small bag, but 7 KG is the max.
I just put my wife on a plane to Bris with Emirates, they have lifted econamy baggage limit to 30KG, all others are 20kg.
Emirates are also about the cheapest with return to UK from Oz for around 1440 AUS$
Singapore Air is not far behind

So the best/cheapest way to get things home from England would be to post them from a post office via snail mail?

Just make sure you choose surface (sea) mail and not economy air , last couple of things I have had sent from London to here via economy air took 3 1/2 months to arrive , surface mail takes 6 weeks normally and costs half of what economy air does :evil: :evil: :evil:

Royal Mail or whatever they call themselves have a max parcel wt of 2KG for air mail - not very heavy really. Over that it goes "economy air" as Sports said - avoid it
