Oh man... I've done some really stupid things in my life, but I think i might have just outdone myself >_<. A long-suffering red clubby is going to be really famous tomorrow. I'll keep it a secret until tomorrow, then I'll post up a pic before I leave the house. I must say, driving that car with MJ cranked up is even wierder than usual. I had people following me in formation behind, and people coming up alongside and giving me the thumbs up. I even got requests ![]() I wanted to take a vid with my camera, but it ran out of battery! Typical!!! Any way the sound system specs are: - 1x 2x150W Response amp. - 2x 120W cheapo party speakers (8 ohms) - 1x Marine 12V (110Ah) battery that is still not flat after about 2hrs of - powering the above at full volume - Some 4 gauge cable for carrying 30A to the amp, and speaker cable - A 120A circuitbreaker with built in voltage display so I could keep an eye on the power. - Laptop with winamp for supply the tunes - Car battery + alternator as backup I wasn't sure if the marine battery would hold out for 3 hours, but it did. But then again, I probably wasn't actually doing the full 240 W because I was using 8 ohm speakers instead of 4 (permitted by the amp). Initially I planned to run them in parallel in bridged mono configuration, but it turned out to be loud enough in stereo. But this gives me a very bad idea.... it means I can buy another pair of speakers and run each pair in parallel off the same amp. Some interesting observations: - Was nice to see the batt voltage slump to 11.7 during bass beats and then back up to 12.0 - Switching over to the car battery, the alternator was able to maintain 13.1 - 13.4 V driving at night with the stereo cranked to full volume. - A mini roof can support 2 20kg (?) speakers weight. It dented in a bit to be flat, but popped out when I took the speakers off This car never stops amazing... Buhaha.... Edit: A had a heart attack when I first rocked up to the place. I switched the jumper leads from the car batt to the marine batt, but forgot to watch the polarization. ![]() ![]() Edit2: Reformatted amp specs, theres only 1 amp. |

Buhaha.... Thats a good effort. In my van there are 3 amps collectively 2000w 1 x 700cca battery 85A alternator (63A couldn't keep up) A 1 farad cap Not running i had the stereo on for about 8 hours at about 1/3 - 1/2 volume and the drain got to about 11V. It started the next day. Your system should well outdo that, and probably push more SPL ![]() |
