Post subject:  valves - mismatched

Ok have the head of my beastie and it appears that the exhaust valves arent in good shape, someone had replaced the inlet ones. Now my query is 2 valves have a large cutout/groove? for collars and o-ring. The rest only have a small groove to lock the collars in. Now are these valves ok to0 be in mini as the good near new exhaust valves have the tiny groove and if so can I use the o-ring or do i need a special valve guide sleeve? I am on a very strict budget and would prefer not to replace all the valves. Otherwise this job is gonna take me months.
Any helpful tips appreciated.

Cheers
Mark

The ones with wide grooves & O-rings are early valves, used with wide collets. The others are late type and do not use O-rings.
The same valve spring caps will fit either.
If you use the later type inlet valves, fit 1275 type valve stem seals on the guides...

You can buy the seals singly, there are 2 types- 1275, or Metro (same but have a spring round them).
Under $1 each.

The 1275 seals are not very good quality and don't last as long they should. I know a bloke in the US that sells better quality ones made from Viton (the green stuff)

Yep I know him too. nudge nudge
I just fitted them again, today. 8)
I agree the others are crap, Metro last slightly longer than 1275 ones.
