G'day all, I've just changed from a HS4 to a HS2 on my Minor. I can't get the choke set up properly. On the HS4 the choke had four "clicks" of travel (the minor has click stops on the choke knob), the first two clicks progressively increased the revs but did not alter the mixture, the second two clicks further increased the revs and richened the mixture. On the HS2, there are still four clicks of travel, and the first two move the cam that lifts the revs, but the cam's travel is not in range of the adjuster screw which lifts the revs. When the cam contacts the screw, it does so at the same time as the jet starts to move. I want to have the revs rise before the mixture richens, like the HS4, the mechanism on the HS2 looks like it should do this, but the cam and the screw aren't in sync. Have I got this mechanism set up correctly? If so, why is there so much travel before anything happens? Here's a picture. (this is in the choke off position.) ![]() [edit] Looking at the pic, is it just a simple matter of screwing in the adjuster screw further? It looks like it would have to contact the cam before the "corner" at the bottom. This could not make a smooth rise in revs possible, right? ![]() I'm tempted to pull the cam off and file it smooth... |

it's the minor saying "heeey!! what's with the little carb, you think I'm a wuss or something?!?" the lever is set up correctly, but try setting it up with the choke lever already turned slightly while in the 'off' position - basically undo the cable, turn the lever with your hand, then do the cable up again. The position of the lever with the knob in the off position is part of the adjustment, so long as the jet is against the adjuster knob when you want the choke off it's too early in the morning after not enough sleep, does that make sense? that's the way I set them up anyway... |

Ok, I'll try that, it'll mean I lose some of the pre mixture idle speed adjustment, but it should work. - Thanks! |
