hey,

since i put the dellorto on my mini, its been running a little rich (gettin rejetted wen i have money) but yeah now it runs quite cold... is this ok??

the temp gauge is a standard leyland mini one i guess. and it sits on just below a quater... it used to sit on 1/2 before i swapped carbys...

think its running too cold?? can u even be running too cold??

You definitely can run too cold, the oil will foul up with combustion by-products if it doesn't get hot enough to boil them off.

Fuel is a good coolant, and an over-rich mixture will actively draw heat out of the combustion chamber.. you might have this problem.

haha hmmm i mite put my thermostat back in tomoro or on the weekend then hahaha... just got a blanking one in atm cuz it used to run hot...

but then it will be summer agian lol i bet it runs hot in summer!!

They need a thermostat. They do not need a blanking plate.
If it is overheating with a thermostat there is a problem.
Fitting the blanking plate is just like fitting an open thermostat.

i'm still confused about how u ran cold only when u changed to a dellorto. :D

put a heat shield between the extractors and the dellorto,, i found it definetly made mine run better when i had done that after the car had warmed up.

When you pour too much petrol into an engine it will not create the same amount of heat. The fire is not burning as hot.
To get the right flame you need the right mix of air and fuel.

I just love you Morry :-) well,,, not in "That" way tho :-)

Most of the race guys, (whether they actually know the original reason or not) fit a blanking sleave/plate to save themselves from the problem of the thermostat sticking shut ,,, because it isn`t the nicest thing to be leading the race ,.& a few laps from the end only to have it boil it`s tits off because the thermostat stuffed up & shut off.

It`s the funniest thing whenever i pull a customers blanking plate/sleave out,,, & when they ask why i`m fitting a thermostat , well i tell them they need it as a regulator to keep the engine at a certain temp,,, "THEN" i show them how the blanking sleave/plate hole is still "BIGGER" than the inside diameter of the top hose :-)

Not just that, but the fuel you're not burning absorbs the combustion heat and evaporates.. which means less heat gets into the engine and more is conducted out the exhaust.

lol thanks guys ... theres no problem with cooling new rad etc now... old one was buggerd ect so dude that did it chucked in a blanking sleve thingo duno y, ill change it asap.

n just to clear it up... old carby was verry lean this carby is too rich, and i know thats y the diff in temp... gettin it rejeted wen i get some mooolaaaa
