I waited until getting the new outer A panel to work out where to cut. The new panel has the lip that turns the corner into the door opening. The lip is not as deep as the door jamb do obviously there will be some blending there. Just wondering on the best way to cut out the old panel - any tips and points.

I have one of those english "how to restore" books for the mini which does have step by step instructions and pictures.

Unfortunately its in the container we rent in town. We are 20 km out of town and the container is because we are clearing out this house to tart it and sell it.

But all the information is in that book.

david, when I cut the old ones off I cut the door edge along the outer corner up to the crease at the top and taper off along the sill top edge.
When you weld the new panel on the curve of the door gives you a profile to work to. clamp the seams together and then curve the "A"panel to the door edge. Line it up top and bottom then tack from the center and work each way bit by bit.
When you weld it spot weld the seam , then do a series of stitch weld along the door edge until it is completed. You will find that there is less distortion welding on a corner than on a flat panel.
Once the weld is complete I then clean it off with a flap disc. I NEVER use grinding wheels. The flap disc will give the metal a polished finish and the radius of the corner can be shaped. I find that doing it this way the finished radius does not require any bog to finish off.
