I'm undecided about this idea :?

Love the idea but but my expectation on what it will look like with Bini front end  I think it will look ugly.

I do like how they are thinking of getting JCW to do the engine mods and aiming at people that like thier quick cars. I think they are aiming it as a race car of sorts

I guess if it was to be a limited , real perfromance version with improved aerodynamics and looks (like the original) then it will be cool . However I fear it will be just another model in the range with a different shaped back (tacked onto the cabrio shell for example) sold by the thousands .

I'm wondering what will be the next model name used by MINI , they've done Cooper , Clubman , Checkmate etc , what other model names have they used so far and what will they use next .

(Disclaimer , I'm not being cynical here and I accept that whoever owns the names has the right to use them in whatever way they choose to sell cars , I'm just wondering what other names , models or themes from mini's history will become future models . I know a MINI moke keeps getting talked about but what else could be in the future designs ?)

Other BINI names (that were used on the classic Mini) off the top of my head are John Cooper Works, Park Lane, Mayfair - Im sure there are more

I love the broadspeed concept - but I bought my BINI for practicality (I can hear the sniggers already) so if there is less room in the rear I doubt I'd buy one. I was originally going to buy a SH Lotus Elise when I bought the BINI - don't think I'd fit a baby capsule in that....

Hmmmm...
I'm not going to form an opinion 'til I've seen some pics of what they're proposing to do with the car.

There is some serious potential for a lightweight two seater aero backed body with a hi-po engine . Stripped out race style interior , race seats and reduced sound deadening/power robbing accessories ....

EDIT > Maybe we need a "design your ultimate MINI comp" ...

They can't use Moke - as the Chinese Moke people have registered the name after challenging the registration as it was still registered to Leyland

I wonder if they can use the name Broadspeed? The name never belonged to BMC/Leyland/ARG/Rover.
It belonged to Ralph Broad.

I hate how they just take a famous (in mini heritage) name, and just whack it on their car. It's not a broadspeed mini. What is pictured IS a broadspeed mini.

I suppose who ever owns the rights to the name "Broadspeed" would be more than happy to sell the rights if their name was going to be on hundreds of thousands of cars, with $x in royalty per car sold. I prbably would too.

Going by how far wrong they got the clubman name/vehicle, the broadspeed will probably end up being a 7 seater SUV.

Yeah, what he said ^^^

Typical of modern marketing to 'buy' heritage. Makes me vomit. Clean-suited hip young things in the marketing department think "Need to extend the lifecycle of this product, hmmm, where's Wikipedia? Ooo, look - a renowned tuner of minis, apparently highly sort after mini variant. Quick, buy the rights before they know what we're up too and it will be too late".

Soulless.

Actually i love how they take old names and re-invent them - my Mini parts/cars have all gone up in value since the BINI came out...

Yet another car they will make a mockery of in looks.

It will have poxy lines, and the interior will look like a kitchen.
