Just done some more updating on the web site, I've added some newer pics, you can clearly see some of the rust patches that I've yet to deal with. I'm try to get bogging done on the rear drivers quarter panel, not easy .

Did you say you can't get access to a welder? Or was that someone else?

Just as a matter of interest to people....my father in law bought a Gas MIG welder. I had only used a gasless previously. The gas MIG welds much nicer than the gasless. I did notice this when using Kev's gas MIG recently too

You HAVE to use PPG Etch Primer on that shell. You have done a brilliant job stripping it to metal, and the PPG Etch Primer is so good at bonding to metal!!!! Well done!!

It was I, I didn't really want to hire a mig welder because of the amount of work, I can't really weld and cost. Dad has an Arc welder, but its not adjustable. I thought I might be able to fibreglass those holes, but I've decided on welding them.

Etch primer, I've got some from a local Panel Works who does use PPG, but I'd say the etch primer is a cheaper brand.

the reason I suggest welding over glassing is because that area is prone to rusting, and damp. Bog will swell with moisture and bubble. Glassing might be ok, but for best long term repair - weld it.

I would be cutting it all away until got to clean metal, then weld a patch in.
MIG welding over rusty holes is not much more permanent than fibreglassing it.

So just angle grind the crap out of it and then weld a patch of sheet metal in the hole??

Correct. You can then grind the welds, beat it level (or just below) and finish with a skim of filler.

Woohoo, got me a lend of a Mig welder, I think its gasless but that won't matter will it?

No I just need to pick up the old 850 shell that I'm gonna use for panels. I have the old green Deluxe, but after looking at it and cleaning it out the other day I would rather do it up as well, it seems really good condition (well, some miner dents etc, rusted floor)

Generally its pretty hot and dry, but during summer its supposed to be our wet season I think, but we havn't had much rain.

As to welding, not really, I get the general idea, I didn't get to do it at school and I only did Metalwork in Yr10 not Yr9 (which is where they learnt some I think). Dad know's how to arc weld, so he can help me out. And my boss at work knows how to weld, so if I get stuck

Yeh Moree is country nsw, its 120kms from Goonderwindi, 9 hours from Sydney, 3.5 Hours from Tamworth.

Nah, and I don't ever go to Tamworth anyway, I normally go to Toowoomba when I go away.

Gasless is very convenient, but I think a gas MIG produces better welds. That's my experience anyway.
