How much (roughly) does a bare shell weigh? (Mini K) gotta get my subframes out and was thinking of slinging some rope over the roof beam in the shed, unbolting everything, then pull the shell up a bit higher to move the subframes out. Open to better ideas of course.

Thanks, Matt.

Is there an engine still in the front subframe?

If not, I'd just jack the shell up high, support it with jackstands, then lower the subframes out with a couple of jacks

If there is still an engine in the front subframe, I'd support the front subframe with jacks or similar (to stop it tilting), unbolt it, grab a mate to help lift the front of the shell up over the engine, then wheel it back like a wheelbarrow. Then support the shell on jack stands and drop the rear subframe out.

Bare shells with no glass or bolt on panels don't weigh much, 2 people can lift one, but 3 or 4 make it much easier!

I did exactly what Andrew says, was the safest and easiest way, hes right about the weight etc 2 people can move it but 4 is better, i made up a trolley to move shell around on, join 2 old pallets ontop of each other and screw on some nylon wheels from an auto store..happy days! Stu

Thanks guys, The shell won't be moving far once i get the subframes out...I'm by myself for almost everything lol. There's no engine so it should be fairly easy. I'll see how i go.

I've lifted each end of a bare shell off the sub frames but I needed a second person to move the sub frame out of the way.
From memory I think I heard 250kg but I'm not 100% sure....I have a feeling their lighter than that though.

My shell is bare except for the rear sub frame which isn't bolted in. I mean bare, no doors or glass or anything. I move it by standing in the engine bay and lifting the front by the tower mount points. I can actually walk it like a wheelbarrow. Most recently I tied a rope between the tower mount points and put it over my shoulders. Moved the car about 30m by myself. Then lifted it up and put it on stands, the rear subby just fell away.

I'm a p1ss-weak office worker, so anyone could do it.
