Post subject:  FLASH LUBE FOR CARS

Just a quickie, had my falcon put on gas  and have been told that if you install a flash lube kit, it will extend the life of the engine and keep the upper cylinders lubricated  enABLING them to work more efficiently, and comments from the knowledgeble fraternity..

Cheers....

I'm sure most people here run that or something simular. 8)

Seeing as though you can't get leaded fuel anymore.

LPG is a dry fuel, with no lube properties whatever.
Flashlube was invented years ago for Holden and Falcon motors running LPG with iron heads, and no inserts. Using LPG in them wore the seats away the same as unleaded does.
I have used Flashlube for years in my Minis as lead replacement, I know it works for that. But if your Ford is not an antique and has unleaded inserts already, the Flashlube won't do much except provide upper cylinder lube.
It won't hurt, but it's not really needed.

What your is your Falcon?

If it is a late model I wouldn't bother. The valve seats and rings should already be up to the job.

It is just another version of snake oil.

by the look of the expert replies, I am pleased to say that Doc, appears to be the only one taking his medication, so to all the rest, go and take your pills or you will all turn into mushrooms, and you know how mushroom are made to grow.

Thanks again Doc, nice to know you can be relied on...

I've got one of their kits in my Moke and it works OK. Its a little bit fiddly to get it adjusted right and it does actually work the wrong way. Because its 'powered' by engine vacuum more flashlube gets dispensed when manifold vacuum is at its highest (i.e. when the throttle is closed) but then when you put your foot down less gets dispensed. But apart from that its fine, I put flashlube in it and it disappears so I guess its doing its job. I suppose on an LPG vehicle its pretty hard to take the fuel cap off and pour in a little bottle of the stuff, so this would be a solution.

As to whether it works or not, I wouldn't have a clue. I haven't had any noticeable valve seat recession since I fitted it, but then I didn't have any before hand either.

My 1360's valves & seats are always clean and shiny now. :D Unlike the ones that came out of my son's recond Clubby 202 head after a 6 months plain unleaded trial.. the hot valves pulled little lumps of iron out of the head. Bit I did that deliberately to find out, so now I know. 8)

And my valves are still working fine with no additives.
The valve clearances have not budged.

So, would you run valvemaster in a new car that was made LPG compatible? (like a Falcon?)

No.

Your Morris 1100 has tetra ethyl lead valves, not steel..
Reco the head and see what happens. :P

Why reco the head, it works fine the way it is.
Besides, I don't want to disturb the 43 year old head gasket.
How much tetra ethyl lead would be left on the valves since it hasn't had any leaded fuel for over 10 years?
