Has anyone ever used a colour tune spark plug ? It's a unique test spark plug with a glass top that takes the guess work out of carburettor tuning.

Pros / cons ?

Yeah a few of us have it. Its pretty good but really only good for setting the setting at idle when you have an SU.

The profile of the needle is what really determines the ultimate correct needle for the engine all the way through its rev range. Great for a standard engine though.

As Mike says, the Colourtune won't help you select the right needle but if you have the right one, it's a great way to set the idle mixture (which is all you can set on an SU anyway).

It's pretty much invaluable if you have twin carbs, as it allows you to get both carbs to exactly the same mixture with no fuss.

Unlike a see thru dizzy cap, this is not designed to be run under power. That will melt the bugger...
