no just the standard one that comes with the off the shelf guns. i'd get a flexible attachment tho, they come in handy for when you need to work on awkward angles...

Cheap guns work ok, but the grease nipples are rubbish. More grease will squirt out around the nipple than get pumped through it. Especially with the ball joints on a mini which is the main reason you need one.

Shell out for a reasonable grease gun imho and save yourself the pain. saying that, 50 dollars gets you a perectly reasonable Toledo grease gun.

On this subject, is there a trick to getting a grease gun to unlatch from a nipple easily?

I always seem to have the hardest time doing this and it's not made any easier when your fingers are greasy and you can't twist the bits you need to twist. Am I doing it wrong?

A couple of things I do. Have a BIG tin of brand new 1/4"unf nipples and a 6 sided socket to remove them. If they look cruddy throw them away and relpace with new ones.
Another thing is to scrounge all the wrecking yards and get the little rubber caps of the brake bleed nipples and use them to cover the grease nipples. Stops them from rusting .
After you have pumped the grease in and the connector won't come off, this is caused by the residual hydraulic pressure in the hose . Just release the pressure by opening the bleed screw on the gun pump.

Good idea about the caps David :wink: I have an extension piece about 18" long - gets down the back of the motor to the nipple on the top of the diff housing for the gear linkages.


I have found the more you push the hose coupling onto a nipple the more it leaks - but if you push on then pull back a little it seals fine.

yeah, the upper balljoint is a PITA.

If it won't take grease, the joint is good (little wear), therefore it needs lube to stay good.
If it does take grease, it is probably worn, therefore rooted, and not worth greasing :evil:

Bought a toledo and the casting cracked after about 30 minutes use. :cry: As a result it leaked hydro fluid all over me and the garage floor.

I've got a little Toledo one and it's rubbish - the handle is made of thin bent tin and it's too flimsy, it bends whenever there's any backpressure.

Find one with a good sturdy steel handle...
